Special Issue on Serious Game

The growth of computational capacity, development of new forms of interaction with the users, and theoretical foundations produced by the scientific community over the past few years have now made it possible and viable to develop solutions, based on serious games, to face real problems. Serious gaming, with a primary purpose other than entertainment, is already recognized and used as a method for addressing educational, policy, and research questions around sustainability.

This special issue aims to present recent works on these topics from academia and the industry for readers to get an initial grasp on this evolving field.

The focus of this special issue will be on the broad scope of serious games. Inside it, we invite researchers and practitioners to discuss techniques and experience designing novel serious games to help our societies deal with health-related issues such as rehabilitation and Parkinson’s disease. The researchers also explore the possibilities to improve players’ motivation and game experiences in serious games. On behalf of the IJIT Editorial Board, I wish that this special issue can provide our readers with insight into how serious game is making a positive impact on societal issues, and inspire more innovative thinking towards how we can address these challenges together.

Yours Sincerely

Chunyan Miao, Chief Editor
