Special Issue on Healthcare Reimagined: MedTech Solutions for Tomorrow

The definition of health is changing and expanding, evolving to encompass not only physical wellbeing but mental, emotional, social, and other facets of health. With this, there is a growing understanding and recognition of the multi-dimensionality of personal health, and acknowledgement that there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution for every individual. While this allows us to view health more holistically, it also exponentially increases the complexity of the challenges facing us, including not only the individual, but their environment, behaviours, social groups and more. This, coupled with an ever-increasing life expectancy and a better ability to recognise and categorise health complications, has resulted in diversification of the challenges that we now face as we age and encounter new obstacles in our health both from internal and external causes.

In this issue of IJIT, the authors examine a number of key factors and developments, from access to tools for mental and emotional wellness, to novel approaches to encourage positive lifestyle changes through gamification, and many other diverse ways in which modern healthcare is advancing and how technology plays an increasing part at every stage of the healthcare journey, impacting doctors, administrators, hospital workers, home carers and particularly patients. The contribution that future technology can make to general healthcare cannot be overstated, and the input and influence of modern systems in daily health is continuously growing, and will likely affect almost every individual on the planet in some form.

Yours Sincerely
