Sustainable AI and healthy longevity represent converging priorities in the evolution of intelligent systems, where technological advancement must be balanced with long-term human well-being, social value, and environmental responsibility. This special issue explores how AI and interactive technologies can be designed, deployed, and evaluated with sustainability and human-centered outcomes at their core. Beyond performance metrics, the focus shifts toward efficiency, accessibility, engagement, adaptability, and alignment with the needs of individuals and communities across the lifespan.

The papers in this issue emphasize robustness, resource awareness, inclusive design, and real-world applicability. Work on sustainable edge AI for weather-adaptive image super-resolution demonstrates how intelligent perception systems can operate reliably under environmental variability while maintaining computational efficiency in safety-critical contexts. Complementing this technical perspective, contributions on ageing communities examine how personalised social and environmental interventions can foster connection, meaningful productivity, and well-being.

This issue also foregrounds embodied, playful, and mixed-reality interaction in support of healthy longevity. Research on ping pong exergaming for cognitive inhibition training shows how engagement-centered design can make cognitive and physical training more motivating for older adults. Similarly, mixed-reality mirror-based guided movement training illustrates how interactive systems can support exercise, mobility, and embodied learning in intuitive and adaptive ways.
